HBF optimistic about homebuying scheme

A new scheme to help people onto the housing ladder could be
successful in bolstering the property market, the Home Builders
Federation (HBF) has commented.
HBF head of communications Steve Turner said the launch of HomeBuy
Direct, on which the body is partnering with the government, is "a
shared risk option for people purchasing houses and to make it more
attractive for people to step back on to the property
ladder".
He suggested the programme could "generate some interest" in the
property market, explaining that the body is keen on any move that
could help create more construction industry jobs.
Mr Turner stated that an increase in lending and consumer
confidence will lead to demand for the building of a "significantly
large" number of new homes.
The National Housing Federation has warned that without government
initiatives, the number of new homes built in England in the next
financial year could drop by half.
